The "Build Our Energy Barn" will be located on the TransCanada Keystone pipeline route so that, should the pipeline receive a permit, TransCanada will have to choose between rerouting its plan or demolishing the new educational facility.

The folks fighting the Keystone Pipeline in Nebraska have come up with a very clever strategy to illustrate (and educate about) their “Choose renewable, Not oil” position. Check it out:

Volunteers will come together on Saturday, August 17, 2013, to participate in a groundbreaking ceremony to prepare the future site of the “Build Our Energy Barn” — a solar and wind-powered barn being raised on land directly inside the route of the proposed TransCanada Keystone XL tar sands export pipeline.

The Build our Energy Barn is to be an educational resource; a place where the community can learn and discover sustainable energy alternatives that serve to benefit the agricultural industry. Wind and solar energy is much more than just viable; renewables are an ecological and economic necessity that builds — not threatens — our communities.

Due to the future location of the Build Our Energy Barn, should Pres. Obama ultimately approve a permit for Keystone XL, TransCanada will either have to reroute the pipeline, or demolish a community-serving, sustainable energy structure.
